MENINGITIS B STUDY

About Meningitis

Meningitis B is an uncommon but very serious disease caused by a bacterial infection of the lining of the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis B bacteria lives within the nose and throat and is spread through close contact such as coughing,
sneezing, kissing and sharing drinks/food.

More Information

Meningitis is potentially fatal as 1 in 10 people infected may die, sometimes within 24 hours. Good news! There are vaccines available to prevent Meningitis B. Although Tennessee does not list Meningitis B vaccine in required immunizations,
one dose is required for admission to most colleges and universities. If you have not had meningitis shot you may consider participating in a research study. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of 2 or 3 doses
of Bexsero (a FDA approved Group B vaccine) and Menvo (FDA approved for A,C,W,Y) compared to an investigator vaccine of the combination of both to cover all five meningitis groups (A,B,C,W,Y).
