Weight Loss Study
Obesity is a significant health problem worldwide. It is particularly prevalent in the Southern United States. Obesity is preventable and treatable. Many individuals having obesity/overweight have made several attempts to lose weight through lifestyle changes with some success in the short term. However, maintenance of weight loss long term is rare. Recently there has been attention on medications to treat obesity such as Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro. If you are struggling with obesity and obesity related conditions, you could consider participating in this research study which will combine medication and lifestyle changes.
We are seeking over-weight and obese volunteers to participate in a weight loss research study. The purpose is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of tirzepatide (Mounjaro) weekly injection in combination with an investigational medication or placebo injection given once a month. The duration of this study is approximately 97 weeks with 27 visits to our office.
What Does this Study Require?
- Highly motivated, capable, and committed to attending office visits
- History of at least one unsuccessful attempt to lose weight
- Willing to give yourself an injection
- Dietary and exercise counseling (lifestyle changes required) by a dietitian
- Willing to wear a provided activity tracker and keep a dietary diary
- Frequent blood draws
Who Can Participate?
- Relatively healthy individuals with a stable medical conditions
- Age 18 and older
- BMI ≥ 27
- Stable weight for the prior 3 months
