Study for Obese or Overweight People with Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and obesity are prevalent health problems.  The relationship between obesity and Type 2 diabetes is well established.  If you are committed to make a change in your weight and gain better control of your glucose, this research study may be an opportunity for you. All study participants will receive regular diet, physical activity, and lifestyle management counseling sessions throughout the study.

We are seeking volunteers who are living with obesity or are overweight and who have been diagnosed with T2D.   The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of an injectable research medication to a placebo on body weight and blood sugar levels.  The study duration is about 58 weeks.  There are 51 visits to our office of which 48 weekly visits are for research medication injections.

  1. Highly motivated to make life style changes.
  2. Capable and committed to attending weekly visits.
  3. Monitor glucose levels throughout the study (supplies provided).
  4. Weekly injections, keeping a food and exercise diary.
  5. Willing to maintain a T2D-appropriate diet and regular physical activity with individual counseling by a dietitian.
  6. Frequent fasting blood draws.
  1. Relatively healthy or with stable medical conditions
  2. Ages 18 – 75
  3. BMI 25 or greater
  4. Stable weight (no fluctuations of 10 lbs) in prior 3 months
  5. HbA1c between 7.0 – 10.5%
  6. Diagnosed with T2D for at least 3 months
  7. Stable diabetic medication(s) for at least 3 months or no medications

All study related diagnostic tests and study medication are at no cost.  Insurance is not required.
