Important Update for Pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine Patients & Caregivers
As you may know, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently authorized Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for use in individuals aged 5-11 years old. This tremendous scientific achievement is due to families like yours, who stepped up to join the clinical study for this life-saving medicine. As a next step, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted on Nov. 2 to recommend the use and rollout of the vaccine to children 5 through 11 years of age. Participants in the clinical study who initially received a placebo will be offered a choice to receive the vaccine.
We understand that you are eager to learn whether your child initially received a placebo or vaccine. We are working hard on all necessary elements within the study that will allow us to contact and inform you of the status of your child. We will reach out with this information as soon as possible. For now, we ask that you refrain from calling our office, so that our staff can focus its resources on where they are most needed. We will call you with further information as soon as possible.
UPDATE 11/5/21: We have completed scheduling all patients for their initial shots, and informed informed patients who already received the vaccine. Please let us know of any questions at your next visit. Thank you to all for volunteering, and for being patient as we proceeded through the necessary processes.
